In-Character Information

Name: X
Game/Series: Megaman X: Maverick Hunter X
Teacher/Student/Other: Student!
Canon Point: Pre-MMX.
Age: He's a robot, so...age is a bit weird with them. I guess mentally he's about...17 at this point?
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: 10th grade
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorms, since he's a student.

Personality:

When someone first meets X, two things will automatically stick out in their mind:

"Man, he is such a nice guy."

"...Did he really just say that this horribly crapsack situation will get better with a straight face?"

Even though he's a robot, X is most certainly not one that you would consider machine-like. Blessed with a huge, warm heart and enough optimism to drown a thousand angry bricks, he's a pacifistic heroic idealist to the core. Always do the right thing, nothing can be gained from useless fighting, and as long as you work towards it, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The keyword to that last statement being 'work'.

X isn't the sort to just sit around and wait for things to get better. If things go crapsack, he's going to actively do his best to make sure things turn out all right (unless he goes into an existential crisis, which, depending on the crapsack, is equally likely). If the school suddenly exploded because of a legion of angry magmars? He'll be one of the first there to help the survivors get out okay, and maybe assist the medical staff in any way he can (not that he's all too versed in medicine, though...). If one of his friends is going through a relationship crisis and needs someone to talk to? He'll sneak out of his dorm and go over to them, possibly climbing in his friend's window.

His kind heart is only further punctuated by his emotional nature, moments of naivete, and idealism.

Granted, because of how early in canon X is, these traits are amped up from how they would be even in X1. He's never had to fight yet, and has never gone through the horrors of war. He's essentially a teenager with all the makings of a great hero, but doesn't have the experience to go through with it. He doesn't even really have close friends, not understanding the comraderie that comes with having battle buddies that would watch your back in any instance.

He is, in every sense of the word, green.

That's not to say that he doesn't have strong leadership qualities, or that he doesn't have a strong heart or isn't a logical and methodical thinker. He is all of these things (though in terms of being a leader...especially at this stage in his life, he will only lead if asked, preferring to take the second-in-command or assisting role), he just doesn't have the life experience to really back anything up. It's all raw, working with what little experience he has, accompanied by programmed information, and what he's read in books. He also has his moments of reckless heroism, risking life and limb to help someone even if it probably will end up hurting him in the long run. This also means that he's got an intense morality (Well, his own code of morality anyway) streak, and he'll stick to those principles no matter what. He's also bluntly honest, and while he likes to think he's good at communicating and being diplomatic in the case of conflict, this can go either way (Either way being: Extremely well, or Extremely badly).

And yes, he is naive and trusting (but then, even when he's older, he still carries these traits to a degree). He isn't suspicious of others and tends to take them at face value, not really seeing reasons to distrust other people. All people have good in them, he thinks (though this trait flies out the window later in his life, after Sigma sort of blows up his hometown), and all people are redeemable.

But 'naive and trusting' does not mean 'pushover', or 'doormat'. If he feels it necessary, then he will stand up for himself. He may not be mean about it, but he most certainly isn't going to let someone be a dick and walk all over him (once he's aware of dickery and walking on). He also won't take dickery being done to others, either. If he sees an injustice, he'll stand against it, and won't hesitate if someone's in trouble or in danger. Also, regardless of his naivete, he learns from his mistakes and has much wisdom beyond his (activated) years. He also, regardless of how emotional he can be (and man, can he be emotional), knows when to stay calm and when to let the feelings out. Just because he's emotional and has so many feelings that it's blatantly clear what he's feeling at all times (poker face? What's that?) doesn't mean he's immature. He may cry with you when your dog is sick or when your family is in the hospital, or feel righteous anger when someone passes a sexist comment at a woman or picks on a little kid, doesn't mean he's prone to flying off the handle or acting childishly.

That's not to say that he can't, but it takes a lot to get him to get to that point. Like, doing something particularly horrible. Like blowing up his hometown for no reason. But once it does happen, and he does explode, it's best to get out of the radius and hide behind something, because the results can be kind of explosive.

X is also another thing: patient. He's hardly an instant gratification kind of guy, willing to stick it out and take much time and effort to get what he wants done. Whether this takes a day, a week, two weeks, or a year, he's not going to lose heart or patience very easily. This is either a blessing, or a curse, depending on which way you look at it.

Overall, he's the hero that he doesn't know he is yet, with a human soul shoved in a body made of steel.

Backstory: (Note: This is partially copypasta'd from an application I've already written for him. Mostly because...oh man, this is a monster >///<)

From the get-go, the robot MegaMan X (simply known as “X” to his friends, comrades, and...everyone else) was something special. Developed at some point in 20XX AD by Dr. Thomas Light (a master of robotics known for making such robots as Mega/RockMan, Roll, ProtoMan / Blues, and Rush), X was created with the most advanced AI ever conceived. He could think and feel for himself, a perfect mechanical replica of the human heart and soul. Upon his creation, he was considered too 'unstable' to be brought upon the human world: with his gifts, he could be used for good as well as evil.

The solution? Sealing him away, and ethics testing. Originally the tests were supposed to run for only thirty years, but it wasn't until 130 years after his sealing that he was found by a certain Dr. Cain, who had been excavating the area over the ruined lab for fossil samples. Discovering and awakening X, he (despite his lack of expertise in the world of robotics) made an attempt to make sense of his insane systems and his ability to think and feel like humans. Dr. Cain had even gone so far as to describe X as “More man than machine”.

With X as his assistant, Dr. Cain and X worked together to use X's systems as a template (despite the fact that neither of them truly understood how they worked) to create the next generation of robots, known as “Reploids” (short for the term “Replicant Android”).

You could call these years with the doctor the most peaceful X had ever had, and probably when he was the happiest. He'd gained a rapport with the old doctor, forming a strange sort of friendship with him, practically seeing him as a father figure. It wasn't as though X knew his own, and the two grew close through their continued interactions with one another.

Reploids flourished soon after their development, working hand-in-hand with human workers in many different scenarios. Some had human forms, some didn't, depending on the creators' preferences and specifications. But after some time...Reploids started to act strange, even violent towards both humans and each other. Dubbed “Mavericks”, a special branch of the police force consisting only of Reploids were formed to deal with the threat.

It's at this time, X had started to go through a bit of an inner crisis. What should he do? What did his creator plan for him? Why was he here?

To help him decide, Dr. Cain decided to do the proper fatherly thing, and do what any good parent would do: ship X off to a boarding school that specializes in fighting. Maybe if he was with other people, and spent time out of that stuffy old lab and got to make some friends (even if it did include punching each other in the face from time to time), X could get out of his funk and find himself?

Or at least get away from all the worries back home, and maybe not have to even fight the Maverick threat.

Anything Else?: X can change out of his armor much like a human can change clothes, but when he does, he loses access to all of his weapons, and his defense goes down by 75%. Still, he has physical strength well above that of a human being, and still has his Reploid defenses.

And all information (See: Jen's extremely huge headcanon, which I will be using in Smash) on how Reploids work can be found here, because putting it all here would be...terrifying.

In-Character 1st person sample:

[Public]

Are the first floor girls' dorms still flooded? If anyone on that floor still needs a place to bunk, I can offer my room. It's in the boys' dorms, but there have been a few girls rearranged to the boys' dorms until this blows over, right?

[As X types, he's still wondering just how in the hell a magikarp got stuck in the water main and caused it to explode. Still, it's better than having it evolve in there, he supposed.

...Wait, that might seem weird to *anyone* who was reading that. Best add something just in case.]

Just to be clear, I don't mean that in a weird way. I'm perfectly comfortable sleeping on the floor, so it wouldn't be an issue or anything!

[Private to Shadow | Hackable]

And uh...thanks. For before. You didn't have to get dragged into that, but...I don't think I would have been able to help her without you.

Are the scratches healing okay? You did go see the nurse after all that, right?

In-Character 3rd person sample:

School had been something that humans went to all the time, right? They went there to not only learn, but to socialize, to integrate themselves into human society through group socialization.

...So why was he so nervous?

X adjusted his shirt for the umpteenth time, the odd naked feeling of being out of his armor increased tenfold as he paced back and forth in his dorm. The shirts were too white; he couldn't even wear his undersuit under this thing (he'd tried that once, but it looked like he was a gymnast doing an awful job at hiding their leotard. Hardly the best way to look when he was in a new place.

Did he have everything...?

His bookbag was packed with all necessary essentials. His hair was combed (washed three times in the shower, in fact...too bad that regardless of how many times he combed it, it came out into a messy brown mop), his clothes were neat, he made sure to handle all basic hygienic subroutines...

His armor was even settled in a duffel bag with his undersuit in case he needed it. Was that appropriate school behavior? He'd seen students in television shows do this with their...'gym clothes' (which he also stuffed in there in a neat pile). So why not his armor?

X paced back and forth in the center of the room with a sigh.

Was this right? Was being here the right idea? Dr. Cain had figured that it was, shipping him away from Abel City without a second thought, and X knew that it was for the best.

But what if he could do something? He wasn't well-versed in fighting (something this school was said to at least have classes in), but surely there was something he could have done to help the Hunters back home. Maybe join up with them, or working alongside Dr. Cain as a lab assistant, finding a cure to the Maverick threat.

Maybe he could find an answer here? Maybe that was why Dr. Cain sent him in the first place...

Shaking his head, he let out a venting breath of a sigh before glancing at the digital alarm clock that sat on the dresser of his new dorm room.

4:45 AM.

Still some time before he had to leave for school.

Maybe stepping out for air would be a good idea...
