maverickhunterx: (Reaching for a Smeared Illusion)
Heart-based relationship concept taken...from every character I have ever. I just love this system because it's so convenient for me.

 - X hates you. So either you stomp puppies for fun, or you're Sigma.

 - You're at neutral / Acquaintance level. He doesn't know you well, but he's still willing to talk to you / protect you / all that fun stuff.

 - You're in friendly territory. He'll always enjoy your company but he won't actively search you out or anything. He'll even act as your personal shrink if you're in a stitch (though he's not used to being in this role -- usually it's others reassuring him).

 - You're his friend. This is a rather hard place to get to, so if you're here, be glad. X doesn't make many close ties, but when he does he is loyal like your best Golden Retriever. He feels a bond, or a connection with you, and enjoys your company more than others.

 - You're a Really Good Friend. This is harder to get to than being his friend, so if you're here, then you must have really broken through his own personal walls and got through to him somehow. This is much like a regular friend, except with more trust, more searching out, and even more protection. Also, depending on the person, circumstances, and situation, he might have a light crush on you.

 - This is the 'you're my super-precious friend but you're still not Zero' phase. He'll treat you as a best friend, and will consider you one of the most important people in his life. If you're here, feel proud of yourself. This doesn't happen often.

 - You're Zero. Either that or you're at the same level of trust, which is nigh-impossible with X. He sees you as his friend, his brother / sister, his best bud, his partner...pretty much if you get to Red heart, his care for you will be through the roof and off the charts. Though only one person has ever made it to this level, and that's Zero.

Character Details
Canon Point: Pre-Megaman X
Species: Reploid (A Robot that can think and feel like humans can)
Timeline of Important Events in Canon History:
  • 20XX: Dr. Light created an extremely advanced robot that was capable of evolution, growth, and could think, feel, and make decisions for himself. He named him X, but out of fear of what he could do if not properly checked, placed him in a capsule for ethics testing, which was not to be opened for the next thirty years. X ended up sealed away for around 130 years.
  • 21XX: Dr. Cain found a mysterious capsule while he was doing an archaeological survey of the area that used to be Light Labs. Upon opening it, he discovered X.
  • Upon living with Dr. Cain, X became a sort of assistant to him, and the two of them worked together to create other robots based on X's programming and specs. They decided to call them (including X) "Reploids", which was short for "Replica Android"
  • Eventually, Reploids started to blend in with human society, and were used for various tasks. However, some started exhibiting violent traits, and were dubbed "Mavericks". A group of Reploids called the "Maverick Hunters" was formed in order to deal with cases concerning these "Mavericks".
Personality: (Note: Loosely adapted from one of my other apps, which you can find on X's journal)

More than anything, the desire for peace and harmony for all drives X forward. His kindness, purity of heart, and hope for the future push him in his desire to protect others, do what he can, and work towards a better tomorrow.

X is, as one would call, the 'gentle protector'. Kind, humble, and very strong in his belief in the sanctity of life, he is as Dr. Light's ethics tests hoped he would be: a robot willing to believe in the forces of good. At this point in his life, he hasn’t decided whether or not picking up the buster is the best option for dealing with the trials that are set in front of him, but he understands that fighting should only used as a last resort, only taken up when absolutely necessary.

Because he doesn’t like fighting. At all. See, despite being a hero type with a strong sense of justice, X is a pacifist. He doesn't like violence, and hates it when others (Reploid or human) are hurt. If in a fight, he will hesitate, even freeze if there is an inkling of a chance that he’ll hurt someone, and the notion of murder outright horrifies him. Even though he knows that sometimes it’s important to fight -- especially if you need to defend yourself -- he will still wonder if it’s the right path. God forbid the moment he kills someone; BSOD won’t even describe what’s going to happen if he hits that milestone in this game. See, all X really wants is for humans and Reploids to get along, Mavericks to suddenly turn into kind robots again, and world peace to be a Thing. Nobody would have to fight, nobody would have to get hurt, and everyone could live peaceful lives; this pacifism and inner conflict is mentioned MANY times throughout the series, and X is flat-out mocked for it in Day of Sigma.

...Why yes, X IS very idealistic, why do you ask? So idealistic, in fact, that he's repeatedly chastised for it many times in canon. He's also naïve and trusting, making X the trifecta of easily-played protagonists, as he's betrayed no less than three times throughout his entire established canon: MMX3, MMX4, and MMX: Command Mission. Not just that, but he's genuinely surprised when his trust is betrayed, or when someone commits an act of true evil. You’d think that, playing him from an earlier canon point, he’d be more trusting, but no; X is a trusting dude all the way up until he rules his own Utopian country (and then dies) in Megaman Zero, where he’s been forced to be a little more discerning than he would have in his hunter and pre-hunter days. X just wants to see the best in anyone and everyone, going so far as to beg hostiles to put down their arms and come quietly, even when he knows in the back of his mind that it’s not going to work. An evil overlord could be ready to unleash a doomsday weapon, and X would still ask him to come quietly. Though this does lead him to do some critically stupid things, such as trust those that he really shouldn't be trusting. This isn't to say that X himself is stupid, but his trusting nature is something that is easily exploited. He's also an optimist and filled to the brim with hope; even if things go badly, there WILL be a light at the end of the tunnel.

On top of being idealistic, X is extremely emotional. Being a robot with real emotions was sort of the whole point of X's existence, but his emotional tendencies can lead him into self-sacrificing / martyristic moments, caring little of his own physical health if someone else is in danger. To his credit, though, normally he thinks through situations methodically and logically, not one to endanger others with reckless behavior. As a whole, X is a pretty emotionally driven person, letting his rather large heart pull him about (though not necessarily call the shots). He's also a worrier, sometimes deliberating too much in fear of someone getting hurt, or his decision being the wrong one. On top of all this, X is known to get into contemplative / brooding stages and even have a low opinion of himself, beating himself up for making the smallest mistakes. But once he gets over himself, sets things straight, and decides the best course of action, X will not stop until what's done is done (unless someone throws a moral dilemma at him or something).

This can also lead to him being...a little stubborn. Okay, a lot stubborn. Once X has himself set on something, it's hard to deter him from it. That isn't to say he's childish, but it's hard to get him to change his mind once it's made up, much to the chagrin of others around him.

That said, X is known to be blessed with patience, and is generally pretty even-tempered, but if you push him over the edge he will explode into a fit of rage. These moments don’t happen very often (It's only happened a few times in the entire series), and it is very hard to get on his bad side, but when you do, man, you don’t want to mess with him. At this early canon point, X is less likely to use weapons or combat (simply because he’s not only untrained, but has no combat experience), but he’ll use whatever it is in his disposal.

Though despite being emotional, he is blessed with wisdom and learns from his mistakes. Even as far as MMX2, he understood that sometimes, to bring about what you want, the risks can be high. And he is willing to push himself to the limit in order to achieve whatever goal it is he's after.

Overall, he's a kind-hearted, self-sacrificing pacifist who will do what he can for others, even if that means fighting. A deep thinker, feeler, and one who learns from his mistakes, X is most certainly more man than machine.

    Abilities, Magic and Supernatural Skills/Afflictions:

This is...extremely hard to summarize. Partially, this is due to X's canon having multiple writers and teams, some of which had little to no contact with one another. Partially, this is because of multiple series in the same timeline, with writers trying to connect them (and failing miserably). This resulted in a skewed timeline, plenty of retcons, and headscratchers that make little to no sense.

The stuff I'm bringing up are canon to the main timeline, which includes the Classic series, Megaman X, and Megaman Zero. Megaman Legends is so far ahead of X's time that very little applies here.

Because of the retcons and badly-written canon, though, I am going to have to go into "widely-accepted fanon" territory at one or two points. I'll let you know where.

    [X's Body]

  • While a robot, X can do multiple things that a human can do, including sleep, dream, bleed, breathe (though he doesn't need air, since he can be underwater indefinitely), feel pain, cry, etc. He has the emotional capabilities of a human, and he is known to be the most emotional of any Reploid, simply due to his perfect design.

  • X has a core that is solar powered, which means he can charge himself in the sun, but he also uses Energy crystals to recharge himself (there's also E-tanks, which I think offer a liquid equivalent).

  • The timeline (and even games in the X series) often changes its tune over whether or not a Reploid can remove (and could always remove) his birth armor and have some base body beneath. For the sake of keeping this short and sweet (And not breaking my head over how a Robot can switch armors and keep his internals intact without some base endoskeleton), I'm going to go with the almost universally-accepted fanon theory that they can, since switching between different types of armor is a staple of the franchise, and X changes 'outfits' as it were multiple times throughout the series. There's his various Ultimate Armors in MMX-MMX: Command Mission, his redesign in MMX8, and his complete default armor change -- complete with color-changing laser scarf -- in MMX: Command Mission. The player just never sees him do it, or knows what he looks like without his armor on; considering that he is made by Dr. Light, though, and even the original Megaman looked at least passably human under his armor (And X is far more advanced), one can fairly assume that X would, too.

He also looks older as the series goes on, but I'm not even touching that can of worms. For the sake of safety, I'll say that X looks around 15-17 years old.

X never removes his helmet in canon, but in MMZ, it's shown that Zero has a full head of hair under his helmet, which implies that it is, in fact, removable. In MMX, there are several Reploids who also have full heads of hair, such as Layer, Alia, the default navigator in Maverick Hunter X, and Axl. Though nobody ever sees his hair, one can assume that it's the same as the original Megaman, who had shaggy brown hair.

  • He can kick off of walls; if there is a flat vertical surface, he can kick off of it.

  • On top of all of this, X has the gift of "Unlimited Potential". In theory, this means that X has unlimited potential to evolve and grow as he lives and fights, and gain new abilities as he grows up. In practice, it's a great source of power that X can tap into in moments of extreme danger or emotional distress. In Maverick Hunter X, it's shown that he can tap into this power in points of emotional distress and let out a burst of power. In the original Megaman X, he tapped into this power (again, during a moment of intense emotional distress) and healed his wounds. It also gives him the potential to use energy attacks without utilizing his X-buster, such as the Hadouken and shouryuken (though how is a canon mystery).

In Megaman Zero, it is shown that X's "Soul" (That is, his personality data made manifest outside his body) is powerful enough to carry physical items, hack into computers, and repel viruses in a large space without expending all of his power. While X cannot do this at this point in canon, it goes to show just how much potential he actually has, and what he's capable of.

    [X's Weaponry]

  • Most of X's offensive capabilities are utilized through his X-buster, which is a cannon that he can morph one of his hands into, so long as he has the armor for it (his Buster changes depending on what armor he has equipped, depending on the game). Since X is pre-MMX and does not have his first Ultimate Armor or any of the bells and whistles of the later games, it can simply charge and fire Light photon bursts.

  • He also has the Variable Weapons System, which allows him to take a defeated Reploid's data and translate it into a weapon that he himself can use. With the proper upgrade to his buster, he can even charge these special abilities and use an alternate version, which can have secondary functions such as becoming invincible for a short time, surrounding himself in a barrier, or shooting off a barrage of missiles.

Due to his point in canon, X wouldn't be very proficient with either of these, as he is not combat-ready yet.

  • A lot of his combat capability is based on what armor he's wearing, as various armors throughout the series have buffed or changed his combat potential. Not sure how this will play out in the game, but it's an important thing to note about his abilities.

    Dragon & Magical Element
    Elemental Alignment:
Energy - X is a robot, so it would make sense that his element would be one that relates to, well, electricity.
Light - X has the ability to shoot pure energy blasts, and due to his own personal alignment (Lawful good with a side of goody goodness), Light would be very suiting. Also, because he actually does shoot lasers out of his X-buster (photon blasts, but still!).
Spirit - I was mostly attracted to this because of the abilities that use empathy, as X's primary strength is his emotions, and how close to a human he is. His potential is through his heart, strong feelings, and ability to empathize and worry about others. Also, the dude teleports everywhere in canon, so...

    Dragon:
  • Shoulder-sized; about the size of a small-ish housecat fully grown.
  • Color: Varying shades of blue; her hide shines multiple shades of blue, depending on how the light hits it. Her eyes, meanwhile, are a deep cobalt blue.
  • Hide: Her main body is downy, with thick scales on the forehead, legs, and tail. Her wings are made of a thick, leathery hide, as are the insides of her ears.
  • Body: Beast-like, specifically like a lion cub. Just a lot smaller. The head also has catlike features, such as the muzzle, mouth, and eyes. The ears stick out to the sides, and are leathery on the inside.
  • Tail: Long, scaly, and thin, to a very fine point; her tail is longer than the rest of her, and often coils around things to help her balance.
Wings: Wyvern-esque, and of a leathery texture, with fuzzy bits near the joints. They're larger to compensate for her more beastlike body, but it can sometimes get cumbersome, and aren't always used much.
  • Feet: Scaly, and built like an eagle's. She can retract her talons if necessary.
Personality traits inherited from Character Bond:
  • Worrier
  • Gentle
  • Stubborn

As all of you are probably aware, X is a robot. Though according to the Megaman X series, he's the most human robot in the history of human robots, going so far as to have human bodily functions such as crying, breathing, bleeding, and being able to feel pain -- in this Universe, robots can even fall in love like people can.

So, having no life much concern as of how in the hell this is going to make sense in a written setting, I've taken it upon myself to come up with excuses reasons why this makes sense, as well as explain other aspects of X's body and internals that will be in use in RP.  As a warning, 9/10s of this is headcanon.

This will be in different categories for convenience.
